It is not enough to conquer; one must learn to seduce...
(Voltaire, 1694-1778)

Located on the foundations of King Henry VIII's Bridewell Palace, Voltaire is the perfect subterranean spot in The City, serving gourmet bar bites and Happy Hour into the night with quarterly Cigar master classes.

Voltaire features a chic lounge complete with premium booths, historic private vaults from the Tudor period and a cigar terrace. Voltaire Cocktail Bar & Vaults is named in honour of the French writer and philosopher, who famously spent six years exiled in London.

Voltaire has undergone many guises, the venue’s interior is inspired by its regal history and the inherited architecture located on the site of King Henry VIII's Bridewell Palace, a prison featuring old stone vaults that kept prisoners, and later housed the treasures of a Bank that was built in its place before finally finding its feet as one of London’s finest drinking haunts.

Fast-forward to the present day Voltaire has retained the original cells and latterly vaults are located on the outdoor terrace and have been transformed into heated private VIP zones for couples to groups, with a music system and smoking accessible, complete with table service and available to reserve.
